Development Guidelines
Gaming Universe is here for one main purpose, above all else. To promote,
expedite, and assist in Developing games. However development IS not
a free pass to start a project and then use the web space for random
files. So this is a contract of what I offer you, and what you can
and can't do with my generosity.
Most importantly, development is, as thought the history of GU no matter
who, what, when, or where, free. I will not ever CHARGE you to host
here. However, as is this isn't free, I have a few regulations
regarding storage, use, and advertisements.
To request development rights, please register for the forums
and Private Message Zeo. I check my pms more then emails, so this
is the best way to contact me. If you are registered and logged
in, click the "become one" text under affialtes and it will take you
directly to PM me.
Use guidelines:
Section 1: Qualifications
Developers MUST make at least ONE demo
before they are accepted as a project. A practical engine demo is
acceptable, basically I want to make sure you can actually use a
compiler. You do not have to release the demo publically.
Game Maker and Open Zelda projects can get hosted forums, but
that's all. Both have other palces that will offer you webspace.
If you cannot make a demo, but have an idea you want to make, then you
are welcome to post it on the forums, and scout for a developer
there. I may also provide you with some source code for one of my
projects, to get you started. Since i use open source as a means for
expediting , will return the favor if I feel you intend to actually
do it.
You
must provide me with your name, address and if in US, telephone
number. I will verify this by sending you a copy of this to sign. Send
it back signed.
You
have several choices in domains. 2 free ones, and 2 ones that the
host will charge you for.
These options are FREE, and number 2 is recommended.
Option 1: Free
thegaminguniverse.nfshost.com/projectname This option does
NOT include personal FTP access. I will upload files for you though. I
prefer you don't do this as is if I'm not available, you can't
update.
Best option Option 2 Free:
projectname.nfshost.com subject to host
availability. However I have to mange the creation and set up the
FTP. This option DEOS include personal FTP access separate from the
main site. This is really the easiest way for me, and you, and its
still free.
*These next options are NOT free, and are NOT recommended, as is they cause
higher overhead and a pain in the butt for me, but if you insist I
will do it. The pricing plans change relatively often,so if
interested I will link you to the pricing. I DO NOT CHARGE, you are
paying my host exactly what they say. This is also only my end, if
your existing domain handler charges on top of this, that's your
issue.
Option 3:
Transfer a domain or domains. Host charges for this between 2.95
and 14.95, price depends on a couple factors: This option DEOS
include personal FTP access separate from the main site.
Option 4:
Register a domain. Host charges for this, 8.95 a year for the
registration, possibly other things, like file transferring and DNS.

Section 3:
You are to do the following:
- Not use your webspace for personal storage.
If it isn't source code,
project files, or project based support files, its not allowed.
- Not upload any adult material with out my
knowledge and consent. I can
see very few reasons why I would allow this, but I'm leaving the door
cracked open in case something legitimate DOES come up.
- Not upolad Warze, pornography, and all that other illegal jazz.
- If you receive a Cease and Desist order, notify me IMMEDIATELY. If
its legitimate you will have to comply, if its not, the host will
defend us. As far as keeping the site up, anyway. I will make that
determination.
- Not use spam scripts, no spam.
- Not have multiple copies of the same files
in different directories. Put ALL you images and ALL your template
pages in the same
directory(or even a page directory and image directory), except your
index files (IE /Z2e and /Crossover may each have an index, but NOT
have copies of the images for the menu bars, or the custom 404 those
are in the main directory or main image directory). Then HTML
reference to the main directory, this saves me money.
- Check these terms every 30 days, you have 30 days to terminate under
the old version before you are bound to the new one.
- Not run your own ads.
Section 4: Advertisements(Ads) and web development
As is I'm the one paying for this you are NOT permitted to run you own
ads. However I may or may not ask you if I can run ads. I will not
FORCE you to run ads, but I would appreciate if you made a place for
at least the following:
ONE space for 1 full banner (468X60), or 2 half banners (234X60), or
multiple button(117X30) ads
at the bottom of the all the pages on your site. If you're really
feeling generous, this and a side bar for some
button ads on all pages. (like the main site is setup)

you can also have me make a website for you based on the main site. If
I do that though I will make and run ads automatically same as the
main website.
Section 4: Termination, compensation, survivorship, and Optimization.
Failure to follow the guidelines will result in my either terminating you
development rights, Deleting files that do not belong on my server,
or me optimizing your web pages for you to save me space.
For instance, you make a kick rear website, but you put images that are
constantly referenced by multiple directories index files in each
directory. I will download and disable your website, Put the reused
images in ONE directory, re reference your pages, upload, reactivate
and test it , then send you a notification.
Anything illegal, repeat abuse, Real life threats, etc, and I will terminate
your access.
If you cause me a severe monetary hit, aka abuse, I reserve the right
to charge you for it. For instance, you stream “The Simpson's
Movie” off my server, and rack up a $50.00 bill, I will bill you
$50.00 and terminate your account.
Domain names registered though the host as far as the host is concerned
technically are joint property of me and the host, and if you
terminate/are terminated and your domain still has time left on it,
it reverts to me until it expires. If this happens, we both have to
contact the host and get your domain transferred to a new provider. I
have no interest in keeping a dead domain, as is it costs me
money. Failure to transfer a domain will result in my letting it
expire ASAP, and then I claim no responsibility if some one else
takes it.
Your source code and files belong to you, BUT if you abandon them(defined
as 240 days or longer with no meaningful contact from you without
explanation as to why) anything
left on my server I gain royaltyfree nonexclusive rights to use. In
other words,
you leaving it doesn't stop you from using it later, but it does
allow me to use it as well, and hand it out. You may of course
come back and ask me to not use it, but if I've given things out I
can't control them.
Domain names, abuse billing, and files left on my server survive the
termination of this contract. |
